Book two in The Oddities series
Three weeks after solving his old boyfriend’s murder, bounty hunter Derwin Bryant is trying to let go of the past and embrace his new life with Elliot Leed, a former rentboy and fellow Oddity. Elliot, meanwhile, is trying to adjust to working at Bob’s Bail Bonds and having a real relationship despite his strange power of Object Reading. Hanging over the couple is the fear that Roy Yoshiro, notorious gang lord, will make good on his threats to claim Elliot. If that happens, not even Derwin’s superhuman strength will be enough to protect the man he loves.
Their concerns are overshadowed when Derwin’s friend asks for help finding her missing son. It’s not long before the case takes Derwin and Elliot back to the crime-ridden underbelly of the city and straight into Yoshiro’s clutches. Two gangs are vying for power, and Derwin and Elliot get caught in the middle of their very public fight.
Derwin and Elliot must find a way to thwart both gangs’ plans and escape alive. This time, one misstep could spell disaster for all the inhabitants of Nis.

Fraud Twice Felt The Oddities Book 2 edition by JT Hall Romance eBooks Reviews
Fraud Twice Felt picks up right around where the first book left off. Elliot isn’t hooking anymore and he’s distancing himself from his former life. He has a new job at the Bail Bonds place Derwin works at as an office worker. He hasn’t escaped his past but it’s a chance at a fresh start and he’s taking it. Elliot is living with Derwin and they’re happy. The relationship is still new and they have some things to work on. Mainly Elliot needs to find his place in his new life. He’s only ever sold his body for money but he’s smart and capable. Derwin still worries about him and goes out of his way to protect him. Sometimes Elliot finds that having that makes him feel safe and cared for. Other times it makes him worry that if he doesn’t have more than sex to offer Derwin they will never have the relationship he wants them to have. They get their chance to work together when one of their coworker’s son goes missing. Seems he’s gotten himself mixed up with the other dangerous gang in the city. As Elliot is exposed through the investigation he puts himself in danger. Of course Derwin is going to try to save him. AND everyone else in trouble. That’s just the guy he is.
This book shows some growth in the guys as a couple and as individuals. Derwin has a strong urge to save Elliot. Elliot needs to feel like an equal that can contribute in their relationship. Derwin also learns he can lean on Elliot. He gives his trust to Elliot. Yoshiro’s obsession with Elliot continues to plague him in this book. It’s all very disturbing and I HATE him! There’s tons of action and fight scenes. Some great new characters with powers. Of course the power struggle between gangs kept me interested. The complicated relationships between multiple characters helps the story feel real. The fight between good and evil continues. Mostly the guys just want to live their lives but trouble seems to follow them around. The world building opens new possibilities and problems for future books. I love the MCs and their struggles. Their kink and how it feeds Derwin’s powers aren’t really my thing but it does fit the story. Some may love the pain and dominance Elliot and Derwin enjoy in the bedroom. I really like this series. The story is told through alternating POVs of the MCs. I like seeing things from both of their perspectives. This does need to be read in order. I’d definitely recommend it! An all around great read.
Even when I really love a book or series, I rarely read the subsequent books back to back, whether they’re standalones or sequels. However, Murder Once Seen- the first book of The Oddities series- hooked me so well that I immediately decided to skip other books on my queue and delve back into the colorful and suspenseful urban fantasy world Miss Hall created. Fraud Twice Felt includes enough background and recapping that it can be read as a standalone. However, as it involves the same couple and continues a previous story arc, I think this is definitely one that is best read in order.
Fraud Twice Felt picks up just three weeks after the conclusion of the first book. Elliot and Derwin are happy and adjusting to their new life together. In Murder Once Seen, both characters grapple with their feelings over life changes and the potential of a new relationship. The second book changes things up a bit, concentrating more on Elliot gaining confidence in himself and trusting in the stability of his and Derwin’s love. Although initially I missed the balance between characters, I did quite like seeing Elliot taking charge of his life and refusing to be someone Derwin needs to constantly rescue. There was a definite shift in the relationship as the book progressed, and I really liked the way things were left between Derwin and Elliot at the end.
Although there isn’t a lot of detailed world building in this urban fantasy series, that certainly doesn’t mean it lacks for action or suspense. Once again, the couple finds themselves plunged into a dangerous investigation following the disappearance of a coworker’s son. Unlike the first book, it took a bit more time for the suspense to really build in Fraud Twice Felt and it didn’t immediately hook me. I think part of this was because there were so many unknowns surrounding this investigation, and the other part was I was more fixated on the couple’s relationship rather than the mystery. However, the action scenes towards the end of the book were phenomenal and made it impossible to put down. I also liked that there were a bit more twists in the second book which left me constantly reevaluating my assumptions at how things would end. This series definitely offers a little something extra for fans of romantic suspense. I’m not sure if there will be more from this duo or even The Oddities series, but I certainly wouldn’t be sad to see more stories from the City of Nis.
